Five Guys was founded in Arlington, Virginia, in 1986, when Jerry and Janie Murrell gave their children some wise advice: "Start a business or go to college." The business option won, and the Murrell family opened their first burger joint called Five Guys (after the five brothers).

To this day, the formula remains simple: burgers and fries, cooked to perfection and served in an impeccable environment. We don't have freezers in our restaurants because we don’t use frozen ingredients. At Five Guys, everything is fresh!

We don’t use timers because in our kitchens, we instinctively know when the food is perfectly prepared and just right—based on its look, smell, and texture. In fact, we prepare all our products daily to ensure maximum freshness. This is how great ingredients deserve to be cooked.
